SINCE THE PERMIT FOR COMERCIAL OPERATIONS OF THE SERRA GRANDE CENTER, WHICH WOULD MAKE IT SELF MAINTENABLE, HAS NOT YET BEEN GRANTED BY THE DUE AUTHORITIES, ALL INFORMATION IN THIS SITE IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

The Serra Grande Center for Captive Reproduction of Lachesis muta rhombeata is a self-maintened breeder of the species with the following objectives:
 
  • Reproduction in captivity
  • Formation of a large genetic bank of the species, considered "Vulnerable", according to the International Union for the Consevation of Nature (IUCN)     
  • Environmental Education, specialy towards kids
  • Experimental repopulation in protected areas with GPS microchip implants
  • Sale, donation and/or parnerships involving venom and offspring born in captivity, for antivenom production, pharmacological research, breeding and educational programs in major zoos throughout the world
  • Publication of our results; treatment  and publication of lachetic accidents, seldom studied in clinical practice
  • Consultation in species management.
  • Receiving and guiding groups in one of the worlds hotspots according to UNESCO, to experience the vanishing prime Lachesis territory, and maybe help us to protect whats left of it.
